TimberTech Decking in Highlands Ranch

Looking for a TimberTech deck builder in Highlands Ranch or the south Denver metro? Elevate Landscape & Spas is a TimberTech Member Pro. Most of the TimberTech decks we build sit beside pools, wrap hot tubs, or cover shady, wet corners where wood rots and ordinary boards struggle. That’s where TimberTech’s Advanced PVC line is at its best.

TimberTech deck builder in Highlands Ranch: two-level composite deck with black railing

TimberTech is really two products under one name: an all-PVC board with no wood in it, and a capped composite board. Picking between them, and then picking the right collection, is the decision that matters most. This page walks through both families collection by collection, explains where each one belongs in a Colorado yard, and covers how to look after a TimberTech deck once it’s built.

A TimberTech Member Pro, not just an installer

TimberTech’s Member Pro program is for contractors trained on its products. PVC and composite boards behave differently on install day: PVC moves more with temperature, so end gaps are set according to how hot or cold it is when the boards go down. A TimberTech deck builder who knows those details builds a deck that stays tight and flat, and keeps your TimberTech warranty intact.

We’re also a TrexPRO installer and a Deckorators Certified Pro, so if another brand suits your project better, we’ll tell you.

Advanced PVC or composite: the first decision

TimberTech Advanced PVC boards are made entirely of PVC, with no wood fibers. They don’t absorb water, which makes them the natural choice for pool decks, hot tub surrounds and spots that stay damp. TimberTech says they also run cooler than many composites in the sun. They carry TimberTech’s longest warranties: a limited lifetime product warranty plus a long fade and stain warranty.

TimberTech Composite boards have a polymer cap over a composite core. They resist fading, staining and scratches, cost less than PVC, and are a strong choice for a main deck off the house where water isn’t constant. Composite collections carry 25- to 30-year warranties depending on the line.

The TimberTech collections, explained

Each family comes in several collections. Here’s how we describe them to homeowners when, as their TimberTech deck builder, we lay the samples out on the patio table.

Advanced PVC collections

  • Vintage. The top of the range. Wire-brushed, low-gloss boards with a straight, natural grain, available in narrow, standard and wide widths for custom patterns.
  • Landmark. A rustic, cross-cut grain that looks like reclaimed hardwood. Popular when the deck needs character rather than polish.
  • Harvest. The value way into PVC, with simpler solid colors. A practical pick for a large pool surround where budget matters.
  • Porch. Tongue-and-groove PVC boards that lock together without gaps, made for covered porches rather than open decks.

Composite collections

  • Legacy. TimberTech’s premium composite, with a hand-scraped, varied grain that looks most like real hardwood.
  • Reserve. A multi-tone, weathered-wood look a step below Legacy in price.
  • Terrain. A simpler, even grain for homeowners who want composite at a sensible budget.
  • Prime+. TimberTech’s entry-level composite, with blended natural colors. A good fit for a straightforward board replacement.

Collections and colors change from year to year, so as your TimberTech deck builder we bring current samples to your home and look at them in your own light. Colorado sun can make a color look a shade lighter outside than it does in a showroom.

Which TimberTech board goes where

  • Pool deck or hot tub surround: Advanced PVC, every time. Any experienced TimberTech deck builder will tell you the same, because constant splashing and wet feet are exactly what it’s made for.
  • North-facing deck where snow lingers: Advanced PVC again, because it handles moisture best.
  • Sunny main deck off the kitchen: either family. Composite saves money; Vintage or Landmark PVC gives the most premium finish. Lighter colors help on south- and west-facing decks.
  • Covered front porch: TimberTech Porch boards, for a gap-free surface.
  • New boards on a sound existing frame: usually Prime+ or Terrain composite, the best value for a straight swap.

TimberTech pool decks and hot tub surrounds

A pool deck is the toughest job any deck board does. Chlorinated water, sunscreen, wet towels and bare feet all day long will break down wood in a few seasons. Advanced PVC boards don’t soak any of that up, so they stay stable and easy to clean.

What makes a pool deck work, though, is how it meets the water. Because we build pools as well as decks, we plan the deck height, the pool edge and the drainage as one design. Splash water runs away from the house and the footings instead of collecting under the boards, and the transition from deck to coping feels deliberate rather than patched together. Few TimberTech deck builders in the south metro can do both sides of that line.

For hot tubs, we frame the area under the tub separately so the deck boards around it don’t carry its weight, and leave an access panel for service. See our pool building work if you’re planning a pool and deck together.

Design details with TimberTech

TimberTech’s wide boards and contrasting colors make a few details especially easy for a TimberTech deck builder to work in from the first sketch:

  • Board direction changes that mark out a dining or lounge zone without adding a step.
  • Mixed widths in the Vintage collection for a custom, plank-floor look.
  • A darker border framing a lighter field, which also hides cut board ends.
  • CONCEALoc hidden fasteners, so there are no screw heads on the surface.
  • TimberTech DrySpace under-deck drainage, which turns the area under a raised deck into dry, usable space.

Caring for a TimberTech deck in Colorado

TimberTech never needs staining or sealing, but a little care keeps it looking new:

  • Regular cleaning. Warm soapy water and a soft brush handle most dirt. Rinse pool decks now and then to clear chlorine and sunscreen residue.
  • Snow. Use a plastic or rubber-edged shovel, never metal. TimberTech says snow left on a properly built deck won’t hurt it, so clearing is about safety and use.
  • Ice. Use a calcium chloride ice melt. Avoid rock salt and sand, which can damage the surface.
  • Grills and fire features. Put a mat under the grill and keep fire pits on a heat shield, because hot embers and grease can mark any deck board.

We go through all of this at the final walkthrough. A good TimberTech deck builder should leave you knowing exactly how to look after the deck.

PVC deck mistakes we get called to fix

Good boards can still make a bad deck. These are the problems we see most often on TimberTech and other PVC decks put in by someone who doesn’t work with the product regularly:

  • Ends gapped the same in July as in January. PVC boards grow and shrink along their length. Set the gaps for the wrong temperature and you get open seams in winter or boards pushing against each other in summer.
  • The wrong fasteners. Generic screws or clips not rated for the board can mushroom the surface, loosen over time, and put the warranty at risk.
  • No airflow under low decks. Boards laid close to the ground with no ventilation trap moisture and heat under the deck, which is hard on the framing.
  • Dark boards around a pool. A dark color on a sunny pool deck gets uncomfortable for bare feet fast. Lighter TimberTech colors are a better fit where people walk barefoot.
  • Water with nowhere to go. Splash and roof runoff that drains toward the house or pools under the deck causes problems long before the boards wear out.

If your deck is showing any of these, a TimberTech deck builder can usually tell on one visit whether it needs a repair or a rebuild. As a TimberTech deck builder that also handles drainage, we can fix the cause, not just the boards.

TimberTech or Trex?

We install both, so unlike a TimberTech deck builder who only sells one brand, we have no reason to push one. The clearest difference is that TimberTech offers a full PVC line and Trex focuses on capped composite. If your deck is around water, TimberTech PVC usually wins. For a dry main deck, it comes down to look and budget. Compare on our Trex decking page.

What a TimberTech deck costs

The biggest price factor with TimberTech is the family: Advanced PVC costs more than composite, and Vintage and Legacy sit at the top of each range. Beyond that, size, height, stairs, railings and the site all play a part. Our composite deck cost guide for Colorado explains how those add up. For a real number, a TimberTech deck builder needs to see the yard, so call (303) 718-4619 and we’ll come out.

Permits, HOA and the rest of the build

Whichever board you choose, we handle the parts of the job a TimberTech deck builder should own: the permit with Douglas County or your town, the HOA approval paperwork, and footings sized for south-metro clay soil. Our main deck building page covers that process in detail, including the paver patios, retaining walls and drainage we often build alongside a deck. We work across Highlands Ranch, Littleton, Lone Tree, Centennial, Parker and Castle Rock.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between TimberTech PVC and composite?

TimberTech Advanced PVC is made entirely of PVC with no wood fibers, so it doesn’t absorb water and suits pools, hot tubs and damp areas. TimberTech Composite has a polymer cap over a composite core and costs less. PVC also carries TimberTech’s longest warranties.

Is TimberTech good for a pool deck?

Yes. TimberTech’s Advanced PVC line is one of the best choices for pool decks and hot tub surrounds because it handles constant water, chlorine and wet feet. As a TimberTech deck builder that also builds pools, we plan the deck, pool edge and drainage together.

Which TimberTech collection is best?

It depends on where the deck is and your budget. Vintage is TimberTech’s top PVC collection and Legacy its top composite. Harvest is the value way into PVC, and Prime+ and Terrain are the value composites. We bring samples so you can compare in person.

Does TimberTech decking get hot in the sun?

All deck boards get warm in direct summer sun, and darker colors run hotter. TimberTech says its Advanced PVC boards stay cooler than many composites, and lighter colors help on south- and west-facing decks.

Can I use ice melt on a TimberTech deck?

Yes. TimberTech recommends a calcium chloride ice melt. Avoid rock salt and sand, and clear snow with a plastic or rubber-edged shovel rather than metal.

What warranty does TimberTech decking have?

TimberTech Advanced PVC has a limited lifetime product warranty plus a long fade and stain warranty. Composite collections carry 25- to 30-year warranties depending on the line. Installing to TimberTech’s guidelines helps keep that coverage intact.

How much does a TimberTech deck cost?

Advanced PVC costs more than composite, and size, height, railings, stairs and your site all affect the price. Every yard is different, so we give an exact quote after an on-site visit. Call (303) 718-4619 to set one up.

Is TimberTech better than Trex?

Neither is simply better, and we install both. TimberTech’s PVC line is the stronger pick around pools and hot tubs, while Trex offers a wide range of capped composite. For a dry main deck it usually comes down to look and budget.
