Deckorators is the composite brand that does things a little differently. Its Surestone boards are made with minerals instead of wood fiber, which makes them light, stable and almost unaffected by water. This page covers which Deckorators line fits your home, how it handles our climate, what affects the cost, and what working with us looks like.

Why choose a Deckorators Certified Pro

Deckorators certifies contractors who install its products to its own standards. For you, that means a Deckorators deck builder who knows the spacing, fastening and gapping rules for each line, so the boards perform the way they’re designed to and your warranty stays protected. Surestone and wood composite boards gap differently, and getting that wrong is a mistake that only shows up a season or two later.

As a Deckorators deck builder, we build the whole deck, not just the surface. Footings, framing, ledger connections, stairs and railings are all planned together, so the finished deck looks right and lasts as long as the boards do.

We’re also a TrexPRO and a TimberTech Member Pro, so you can choose the deck you like rather than the only brand your contractor knows. Compare them on our Trex decking and TimberTech decking pages.

What makes Surestone different

Most composite decking is a blend of wood fiber and plastic. Surestone, Deckorators’ mineral-based composite, leaves the wood out completely. That changes how the board behaves:

Almost no water uptake. With no wood fiber inside, Surestone boards barely absorb moisture, and Deckorators warrants them for ground and water contact.
Very little movement. Surestone expands and contracts far less than wood composites, so boards stay straight and gaps stay tight through Colorado’s daily temperature swings.
Lighter to handle. Surestone is noticeably lighter than traditional composite, which makes it easier to work with on second-story and walk-out decks.
Built-in traction. A vertical, embossed wood grain gives the surface extra grip in wet and dry conditions.

Choosing the right Deckorators decking line

Deckorators makes two kinds of decking: mineral-based Surestone lines and capped wood composite lines. All of them have a protective cap that resists fading and staining. The difference is in the look, the performance and the budget.

Surestone
Voyage
Deckorators’ best-known Surestone line, with a rich wood-grain look in six colors: Costa, Sierra, Khaya, Tundra, Sedona and Mesa. Comes in several widths, including an extra-wide board.
Surestone
Summit
Another Surestone line with the same stable, low-moisture core, for homeowners who want Surestone performance in a different look.
Wood composite
Vista
A capped wood composite with a natural hardwood-style grain and a Class B flame spread rating. Colors include Dunewood, Driftwood, Ironwood and Silverwood.
Wood composite
Venture
A capped wood composite and a strong value option. For 2026 it adds Shoreline, a lighter natural wood-grain color.

Voyage and Summit carry a 50-year structural warranty, and every Deckorators board carries a 25-year stain and fade warranty. Deckorators also offers Altitude, a fire-resistant decking sold in select western markets, which we can look into for homes near open space.

Design options for a Deckorators deck

The boards are only one choice. These are the details that make a deck feel built for your house:

Hidden fasteners. Deckorators clips hold the boards from the side, so the surface stays clean with no screw heads showing.
Picture-frame borders. Deckorators makes a dedicated picture-frame board for clean, finished edges and stair fronts.
Railings to match. Aluminum, composite, cable and glass railing systems. Slim aluminum or cable keeps mountain views open.
Multi-level decks. Common on sloped Highlands Ranch lots, and a good way to connect a walk-out basement to the yard.
Shade overhead. We install aluminum pergolas, which pair well with a Deckorators deck on hot west-facing yards.
Privacy screens. Deckorators privacy screen panels add shelter from neighbors and wind without a heavy wall.

How Colorado’s climate affects a Deckorators deck

Strong sun at our elevation. UV is more intense along the Front Range than at sea level. The capped surface holds color far better than stained wood. Any deck gets warm in full summer sun, so on south- and west-facing decks, lighter colors stay more comfortable underfoot.

Big temperature swings. A 40-degree change between afternoon and night is normal here. This is where Surestone shines, because it moves very little. Wood composite lines need correct end gaps for the temperature on install day, which is exactly the kind of detail a Deckorators Certified Pro gets right.

Snow and ice. Joist spacing and framing need to suit snow load, and stairs need to stay safe through freeze-thaw. Clear snow with a plastic shovel or push broom, never a metal edge, and don’t chip at ice.

Clay soil and frost. Much of the south metro sits on expansive clay. Footings need to go below the required frost depth and be sized for the soil, or posts can heave and the deck goes out of level. As a Deckorators deck builder, we set footings to code for your address, because everything above depends on them.

Permits and HOA approval

Most new decks that are attached to the house or raised off the ground need a building permit. Highlands Ranch homes go through Douglas County, while Castle Rock, Parker and Lone Tree have their own building departments. As your Deckorators deck builder, we pull the right permit and build to the inspection. If your HOA reviews exterior changes, we help put together the drawings, colors and materials list it asks for.

What affects the cost of a Deckorators deck

Every yard is different, so as a Deckorators deck builder we quote each deck after seeing the site. These are the things that move the price most:

Size and shape. Square footage matters, and so do angles, curves and multiple levels.
Height. Second-story and walk-out decks need taller posts, more bracing and more stairs.
Decking line. Surestone lines and wood composite lines sit at different levels.
Railings and stairs. Railing style and the number of steps add up quickly.
Framing. New framing, or reusing an old frame if it’s sound.
Site conditions. Slope, clay soil, access and removing an old deck.

For more on how these add up, read our composite deck cost guide. The quickest way to an accurate number is an on-site visit: call (303) 718-4619 and we’ll come measure.

1
Deckorators boards
Surestone or capped composite boards, gapped for the line and the temperature on install day.
2
Hidden clips
Clips in the grooved edges hold each board from the side, so no screw heads show on the surface.
3
Joist tape
Butyl tape on top of every joist keeps water out of the wood under the boards, so the frame lasts as long as the deck.
4
Flashed ledger on the house
Fastened into the house framing with structural screws, with flashing above so water stays out of the wall.
5
Beam, post and post base
Joists sit on a beam carried by 6×6 posts on metal post bases that keep the wood off the concrete.
6
Footing below the frost line
Concrete footings go below the 36 inch frost line so freeze and thaw can’t lift the deck.
7
Aluminum railing
Deckorators aluminum railing with slim balusters keeps the view open and never needs paint.

More than a deck builder

If your project also needs a paver patio below, a retaining wall on a slope, drainage to keep water away from the footings, or a deck around a pool, we do all of it. One team plans the whole yard so the pieces fit together. See our deck building services and our paver patios.

As a Deckorators deck builder, we build decks across Highlands Ranch, Littleton, Castle Rock, Parker, Lone Tree and Centennial.

Frequently asked questions

Is Elevate a certified Deckorators installer?

Yes. Elevate Landscape & Spas is a Deckorators Certified Pro, so we install Deckorators decking and railing to the manufacturer’s standards.

What is Deckorators Surestone?

Surestone is Deckorators’ mineral-based composite. It’s made from plastic polymers and minerals with no wood fiber, so it barely absorbs moisture and moves very little with heat and cold. Voyage and Summit decking use it.

Does Deckorators decking need staining or sealing?

No. Deckorators boards have a protective cap, so they never need sanding, staining or sealing. Soap, water and a soft brush are usually all they need.

Which Deckorators line is right for my deck?

It depends on the look, your budget and where the deck sits. Voyage and Summit use Surestone, while Vista and Venture are capped wood composites. We bring samples to your home so you can compare them in your own light.

How do I clear snow off a Deckorators deck?

Use a plastic shovel with no metal edge or a stiff push broom, and a leaf blower works for light snow. Don’t chip at ice. A deck-safe ice melt, brushed off afterward, is the safer choice.

How much does a Deckorators deck cost?

It depends on the size, height, decking line, railings, stairs and your site. Every yard is different, so we give an exact written quote after an on-site visit. Call (303) 718-4619 to set one up.

Is Deckorators better than Trex or TimberTech?

None of them is simply better. All three are strong brands and we’re certified with all three. The right choice depends on the look, budget and where the deck sits, and we’ll help you compare them in person.
